At the end of the Fourth Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition, the International Ballet Gala was held at NCPA on August 12th and 13th.
The Ballet Gala invited 14 ballet stars of famous ballet companies from Russia, U.S., Germany, Cuba and Austria. With graceful postures, consummate skills and elegant performances, they showed the audience a delightful world of dance.
Olga Smirnova and Semyon Chudin, who came from the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, performed “Diamonds”Pas de Deux from Jewels. Besides, they also presented "Grand Pas Classique" Pas de Deux, and “Taming of the Shrew” Pas de Deux.
Veteran star Nina Kaptsova and rising star Artem Ovcharenko performed “The Golden Age” and “Don Quixote” Pas de Deux. Two Russian works with distinct characteristics of different periods.
In the second half on August 13th, the two pairs of dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia changed partners, with Nina and Chudin performing the representative romantic ballet “La Sylphide” Pas de Deux, and Olga and Artem performing “The Nutcracker” Pas de Deux.
At the Gala, two pairs of Cuban dancers, Adiarys Almeida, Dayesi Torriente, Domitro Suarez Taras and Arian Molina Soca, fully showed the unique charm and strength of Cuban ballet dancers.
Natascha Mair and Jakob Feyferlik, from the Vienna State Opea Ballet, showed the audience the youthful vigour and emotion in “Esmeralda” Pas de Deux and “La Fille Mal Gardee” Pas de Deux.
Marcelo Gomes, performed a male duo dance, an excerpt from his first full-length self choreographed dance work TRISTESSE, with his partner ZHANG Zhiyao, the first male dancer from Asia at the American Ballet Theatre.
The modern works “Sonata” Pas de Deux and “Adagietto” were performed by Oleksandr Ryaboko, a leading dancer of the Hamburg Ballet, and Maria Eichwald, a former leading dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet.
The two symphonic dances “Sonata” Pas de Deux and “Adagietto" were ingeniously structured and delicately choreographed, and the two dancers seemed to be stretching their limbs infinitely along with the music.
As the fantastic Ballet Gala ended, so did the Fourth Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition. However, the ballet competition, as a platform carrying passions and dreams, will still be an unforgettable scenic view and experience for audiences and competitors.
