"Chinese Operas Marking NCPA 10th Anniversary" kicked off

On the evening of September 12th, Hangzhou Yue Opera Theatre performed The Dream of Red Mansions, kicking off “Chinese Operas Marking NCPA 10th Anniversary”.

In the performance of The Dream of Red Mansions, famous Xu-style performer ZHANG Xiaojun played JIA Baoyu, Wang-style performer LI Min played LIN Daiyu (Baoyu's cousin), and Jin-style performer XIE Qunying played WANG Xifeng. These three performers are winners of the Plum Blossom Prize.

This Yue Opera has captured generation after generation of opera fans' heart with its sprightly rhythm, smooth melody and beautiful tune.

On the stage, Daiyu carried a hoe and broom to bury fallen petals, and this revealed how her helpless and desolate she felt in her unrequited love.

In another classic aria “Baoyu Weeping before the Bier”, a mournful tone remained throughout. Hardly had Baoyu said, “Daiyu, I’m late” when he burst out weeping. Such undisguised vent to emotion added much to the artistic appeal.
