NCPA opera commission The Long March appears at the 3rd China Opera Festival

On January 6th-7th, The Long March, a Chinese epic opera commission produced by the NCPA, was put on successfully in the Opera House of Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts at the invitation of the third China Opera Festival.

The third China Opera Festival kicked off in Nanjing on December 16th, 2017, and it was the first time the NCPA had attended the China Opera Festival with an opera commission. LÜ Jia, the NCPA Music director, took the baton of the two performances.

In 2016, the NCPA presented a Chinese epic opera commission The Long March in order to mark the 80th anniversary of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army’s victory in the Long March.

The NCPA commission and Chinese opera The Long March is a collective work by composer YIN Qing, librettist ZOU Jingzhi, and directors TIAN Qinxin and YANG Xiaoyang, shaping heroic images of long marchers.

Tickets were sold out in advance of the three rounds of the performance of The Long March in Beijing. This time, tickets were sold out a week in advance of two performances at Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts.

In majestic music of the revolutionary romanticism style, The Long March touched and shocked the audience in Nanjing so much on stage that offered an epic and a contemporary aesthetic sense.

The touring team of The Long March, made up of over 360 people, was larger in size than that of all other touring operas produced by the NCPA.

During the tour, the artists and team staff had overcome numerous challenges such as a tight schedule and sudden heavy snowfall, and rehearsed it in the spirit of the Long March, presenting the audience with an epic opera performed in an impeccable manner.

On January 7th, vocalists YAN Weiwen, WANG Haitao, WANG Hongwei, WANG Zhe and GONG Shuang performed in the lead.
