  • The concert opened with TAN Dun’s Symphonic Poem of 3 Notes: La-Si-Do. “The three solfege pitches, LA - SI - DO, have always reminded me of the ABCs - that is, the meaning of things starting, beginning and of the origins of everything,” said TAN Dun.

  • In “Forging the Swords,” from Symphonic Suite LU Xun by YE Xiaogang, singers SHI Yijie, LIU Songhu and SHEN Yang played the roles of Black Man, MEI Jianchi and emperor of Chu state in a novel of the same title, presenting this literature classic in symphony music.

  • In Hani Impression by SHAO En, the ancient tunes of minority groups in Yunnan province travelled to the present time under the interpretation of the China National Symphony Orchestra and conductor TANG Muhai.

  • The second half continued with a grand symphonic painting integrating features of multi-minority groups in China and regional cultures, through the performance of WANG Ming’s Haixia Suite (Movement Ⅲ) and BAO Yuankai’s Customs and Charm of China (excerpts).
