NCPA May Festival 2018 grand opening

On May 9th-10th, the NCPA May Festival 2018 was unveiled with two gala concerts. At the opening concert on the 9th, six contemporary Chinese violinists brought “A Feast of Strings” to the audience.

On May 9th, in the second half, six violinists collaborated with conductor CHEN Lin and the Chamber Orchestra of Central Conservatory of Music to perform different violin concertos.

LU Siqing’s Guarneri “Ricci 1734” sponsored by music lover, art collector, and entrepreneur, Mr. ZHOU; CHEN Xi is sponsored by Mr. ZHOU, with a Guarneri “Sandman” from 1690; HUANG Bin and LIU Xiao are respectively sponsored by Yu Fund with the ‘Rogerney 1677’ and the Stradivari “General Dupont 1727”; NING Feng played the “Sam Zygmuntowicz 2017”; and HUANG Mengla the “Vuillaume 1868”.

The concert was also broadcasts live on platforms such as the Classical Music Channel, Beijing Time, and NetEase, enabling music lovers from all over to admire the wonderful violin music.

On May 10th, the second opening concert assembled violinists of three generations - LIU Yuxi, LU Siqing, JIANG Zhenyi, and JIANG Yiying - along with conductor, TAN Lihua, and the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, featuring Chinese violin works.

The first on stage were rising young violinists, JIANG Zhenyi and JIANG Yiying, who played folk pieces Morning on the Miao Village, Golden Furnace and Xinjiang Suite (excerpts).

Then, Mr. LIU Yuxi performed the LIU brothers’ masterpiece, A Beautiful Night, and The Blowing North Wind Capriccio, from violin concerto The White-haired Girl. LIU Yuxi's adaptation of LIU Tianhua's work incorporates techniques for the national stringed instrument, erhu, into violin playing, giving it a warm, gentle Chinese flavour.

Following the two opening concerts, the May Festival 2018 will feature 16 marvelous concerts and a series of outreach programmes. The festival will continue on until May 26th.
