Le Corsaire: Deluxe version features the Bolshoi Theatre's 242-year glamour

On May 18th, the Bolshoi Ballet staged Le Corsaire, a representative piece of the Romantic Period, kicking off the theater’s 8-day grand visit to Beijing.

Principal Dancer Ekaterina Krysanova plays heroine Medora, and Leading Soloist Igor Tsvirko plays Conrad, a corsair.

The great ensemble consists of nearly 300 dancers and musicians from the Bolshoi Ballet and Symphony Orchestra performing in perfect unison, delivering their unsurpassed beauty and strength.

Krysanova is light-footed while dancing and moves firmly on her legs while twirling quickly, looking as if her body were moving fast-forward.

One of the most classic ensemble pases is the well-choreographed, complicated and spectacular ensemble dance in the palace garden.

The Bolshoi Ballet adds their special "radiance” with more than 60 dancers performing in some part of the 20-minute-long dance together on stage.

In the finale, Medora and Conrad board the pirate ship and set sail alongside the wind and waves.

On May 22nd-25th, The Flames of Paris will go on stage, setting a dramatic conclusion to the end of the Bolshoi Ballet’s grand tour here in Beijing.
