NCPA opera Don Giovanni stages its premiere

On November 27th, NCPA opera Don Giovanni embraced its premiere with dramatic scenes and melodic music on a rustic but classical stage.

With outstanding voice power and an eye-catching appearance, Vittorio Prato brought Don Giovanni to life, revealing how the licentious nobleman had courted women with his elegant bearing and treated all things indecorously.

The streetscape, sculptures and palm trees in Seville, Spain, where the story of Don Giovanni took place, were presented concisely and rustically on stage.

The simply-furnished stage provided sufficient room for acting as well-designed by Kokkos. The audience saw serious and humorous plots and characters, experiencing the last day before Don Giovanni’s death, when he “played tricks, seduced women, quarreled with others and held a party.”

On November 28th, Don Giovanni will be performed by NCPA resident artist ZHANG Yang, alongside singers LI Ao, XU Xiaoying, DONG Fang, Juan Francisco Gatell, XU Xiaoyi, Thomas Tatzl and ZHAO Ming. The opera will continue on until December 1st.
