To maximally retain the charm of the original play, both traditional elements and modern symbols are applied to the scenery design and visual modelling of this version.

Director LI Liuyi said, “To revive The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, we spent lots of time reading the script. After comparing the translations by ZHU Shenghao, BIAN Zhilin and LIANG Shiqiu, we finally chose LI Jianming’s translation, which preserves the tradition and reflects the contemporary spirit.”

The story made up four hundred years ago, was easily understood by the contemporary audience, and the performers acted out the classic of a philosophical theme exquisitely with every detail rendered to the life.

HU Jun said frankly, “I found there is no difference between the story made up four hundred years ago and the reality. I grasped the subtext in the script. I put myself in it and discovered many different interpretations. The various possibilities are none other than the greatest charm of this drama.”

HU Jun's wife LU Fang starred in the drama to play the queen and Ophelia. It is worth mentioning that HU Jun and LU Fang work together again on the stage after a dozen years, and that their daughter Jiujiu also played a “singer” on the stage.
