On May 3rd, the NCPA May Festival 2019 kicked off with China NCPA Orchestra and its Music Director LÜ Jia, clarinetist Paul Meyer, flugelhornist Gabor Boldoczki, bassoonist Gilbert Audin, oboist LIU Mingjia, violinist Siqing Lu and China Horn Ensemble.
On the second half, musicians of the China NCPA Orchestra interpreted Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet and Quartet, one of his representative works for chamber music.
Richard Strauss is a giant in German and Austrian music. In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Richard Strauss’ death, China NCPA Orchestra established the concert series “Also Sprach R.Strauss”, to interpret his works in the 2019/2020 season.
At the May 3rd concert, China NCPA Orchestra collaborated with clarinetist Paul Meyer and bassoonist Gilbert Audin in the performance of Strauss’ Duet-concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon, TrV 293/AV 147, which is also the first performance of the “Also Sprach R.Strauss” concert series.
Apart from concerts at the NCPA, about 20 outreach programmes will be held during the music festival. On April 30th, the Music Director of NCPA May Festival, violinist Siqing Lu walked into Xiongan New Area with China NCPA Orchestra and Chorus to show solicitude for city builders and pioneers on the arrival of the May Day, kicking off the 20 public-spirited performances.
“The first public-spirited performance is held in Xiongan New Area during the NCPA May Festival in hopes that the refined art can promote the construction of Xiongan New Area and the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,” said ZHAO Jiachen, Deputy Secretary of the CPC NCPA Committee and Vice President of the NCPA.
The performance kicked off with a Hebei folk song with distinctive local characteristics—Visiting the Parental Home. Other well-known Chinese folk songs, such as Jasmine Flower and Legend, were also presented by the China NCPA Chorus.
Then, the NCPA Octet performed pieces of the strong Chinese style, such as Chinese Sights and Sounds Suite, The Cowherd Boy, Little Running River and Song of Riddles.
After the first performance, the NCPA will give the rest public-spirited performance in different corners of the city, including institutions, schools, hospitals, communities and business areas, during the May Festival with the support of Chinese and foreign artists, ensembles and noted public figures to share with people chamber music in their daily life.
