The concert began with Glazunov’s The Seasons (Vremena goda):Summer, Op. 67A. The fresh, quiet prelude and warm string music melodies led the audience into a peaceful summer night. In some ten minutes, the orchestra depicted a colorful summertime in a rich musical language. In the concert, the famous Chinese violinist LÜ Siqing performed Barber’s Violin Concerto, Op. 14, which is featured with a strong European romantic flavour. With grace and virtuosity, LÜ Siqing performed in perfect collaboration with the Orchestra, bringing an audial feast to the audience.

In the second half, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s representative work Scheherazade presented a brilliant and colourful fantasy land. This work was created based on the well-known Arabian folktale collection Arabian Nights. As the melody diffused, an Arabic-style picture scroll unfolded little by little, portraying interesting folk stories, inviting natural landscape, sweet love, strong passion and delicate, gentle lyrics. Bizarre Arabic tales took all fantasies about summer nights far away, and further embellished the audience’s journey of this summer night concert.

The concert was streamed on the NCPA Classical Music Channel and other platforms

The concert was streamed on the NCPA Classical Music Channel as well as online platforms such as CNTV, Migu, Douban, Beijing Time and Youku. Live broadcasting will continue through all the six “Roam about the Classics” concerts.

On July 14th, besides Glazunov’s The Seasons (Vremena goda):Summer and Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade, China NCPA Orchestra also performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor together with the famous pianist Behzod Abduraimov. From July 15th to 23rd, National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra, CHAARTS, Beijing Symphony Orchestra and RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra will stage performance at NCPA to present scenery of the "four seasons".
