Tristan and Isolde, co-produced by NCPA, Metropolitan Opera, Teatr Wielki-Polish National Opera, and Festapielhaus Baden-Baden, will be staged from August 23rd to 29th. It is the fourth Wagner's opera produced by NCPA following Der Fliegende Holländer, Lohengrin and Tannhäuser.

This version of Tristan and Isolde is directed by famous Polish director Mariusz Trelinsky. Different from the traditional realism opera production, the director transplants the whole story in a modern warship and boldly revises the original work, creating an unfortunate love story in the plot. WEI Lanfen, minister of production department of NCPA presented, “The love story in this opera is like the love between Romeo and Juliet which we are familiar with. This kind of story can happen throughout the ages.”

In addition, NCPA invites Shao-Chia Lü, a famous conductor from Taiwan, China, to take command on the performance. As a master of musical command familiar with music from Germany and Austria at all period, Shao-Chia Lü has cooperated with China NCPA Orchestra and presented wonderful performance on the stage of concert hall before. Tristan andIsolde is the first opera production Shao-Chia Lü joined hands with NCPA. The opera is not unfamiliar to LÜ Shaojia, who hadbeen working on the Wagner classic as director of music in the state opera house in Hanover, Germany more than a decade ago.

This time, Jay Hunter Morris and Ann Pettersen, will perform Tristan and Isolde respectively, both of whom have rich singing experience in Wagner’s opera. Tenor Jay Hunter Morris has acted as Siegfried in the new edition of Wagner's Ring while soprano Ann Pettersen had cooperated with maestro Thielemann and Petrenko to perform Wagner’s opera. At the same time, bass LI Xiaoliang, who had performed on the stage of NCPA for many times will return, playing the role of King Mark, foster father of Tristan.
