Trelinsky said, "there is a ship in everybody’s heart"
The Tristan und Isolde boldly recreated by Trelinsky and his team, is different from realistic operas been staged at NCPA. In Trelinsky’s production, the story happens in a modern warship, rather than in Scotland and Ireland according to the original libretto. Tristan and Isolde are going to put on a grand show of love in a dimly-lighted closed cabin. And King Marke’s appearance on the warship will further highlight the dramatic conflict in the opera. In the meantime, a child will play the “young Tristan”, and the new role is to have Tristan’s life revealed in a more comprehensive way. Trelinsky said, “Tristan und Isolde tells a story about two people going to their doom together after they fall in love with each other. In the original libretto, love begins and continues during a war, while in this version, the story is set in a warship, where people of different nationalities meet. It is very interesting that the story develops in this way. Besides, the real warship on the sea implies something else, namely, there is a ship in everybody’s heart.”
