From September 13th to November 28th, world-renowned super-class symphony orchestras and the most popular maestros in international classical circles will appear at “NCPA Pure Classical 2018”, including Berliner Philharmoniker, The Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, as well as great maestros Gustavo Dudamel, Christian Thielemann, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Antonio Pappano, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lang Lang, Annie-Sophie Mutter, etc.
German and Austrian music will be performed at this year’s “NCPA Pure Classical”, to show music lovers a “panoramic map” of German and Austrian music.
Berliner Philharmoniker
On November 3rd-23rd, the NCPA will welcome Berliner Philharmoniker, The Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin and Konzerthausorchester Berlin one after another, and audiences can discover how such famous orchestras’ hold a profound understanding of the essence of German and Austrian music as they perform masterpieces by Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Beethoven and Mahler. Audiences will also be thrilled to see conductors Barenboim, Dudamel and Thielemann, etc.

Barenboim, who is in his eighties, will make his debut at the NCPA through three concerts with Staatskapelle Berlin, performing Brahms' complete symphonies, as well as Schubert’s and Beethoven’s symphonies.
Apart from the above four orchestras, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Orchestre National de France, Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and China NCPA Orchestra are all set to show their own symphonic music cultures.
Conductor Yuri Temirkanov
This year, Yuri Temirkanov will celebrate his 80th birthday and Penderecki will celebrate his 85th birthday. On September 16th, Temirkanov will revisit the NCPA with St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, which represents Russia’s profound musical tradition. They will perform Rachmaninoff’s works. On October 17th, famous composer and conductor Penderecki will perform his masterpieces La Follia and Violin Concerto No. 2, “Metamorphosen” with violinist Mutter and Sinfonia Varsovia. On September 13th, maestro Ashkenazy, who is 81 years old, will work again with the China NCPA Orchestra to perform masterpieces by Russian composers Khatchaturian and Tchaikovsky.
Orchestre National de France
On October 27th, famous French conductor Emmanuel Krivine will visit the NCPA with Orchestre National de France. Many years ago, Orchestre National de France performed Beethoven’s music at the NCPA in two concerts under the leadership of the late Kurt Masur. This time, the orchestra will, under the current music director Krivine’s leadership, perform not only the classics by French impressionist composers Ravel and Debussy, but also Khachaturian’s Flute Concerto with flute virtuoso Emmanuel Pahud. Then on November 27th-28th, Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia will perform German, Austrian and Russian musical compositions under music director Antonio Pappano’s baton.

This year marks the 160
th anniversary of the death of great composer Schumann. On September 28
th, Pollini will perform Schumann’s three works in tribute to the great composer, as well as Chopin’s works. András Schiff is considered the most authoritative interpreter of Bach’s music following Gould. At the concert of October 30
th, Schiff will perform the works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann, and show his “forte” by playing different styles of music including the Baroque, the Classical and the Romantic.

Russian composer Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30
is widely considered a challenge to play, but audiences will be lucky enough to listen to this piece played differently by two pianists - Daniil Trifonov with Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Boris Berezovsky with St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra respectively. As for Lang Lang, who will appear at the NCPA with the Berliner Philharmoniker and maestro Dudamel, he is set to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491. At the Berliner Philharmoniker concert on November 23
rd, Lang Lang will return to NCPA stage after a hand injury.
