NCPA opera Aida: a press preview

NCPA October/16/2018
On October 23rd-28th, the NCPA opera Aida will be re-staged for a second run, which is now on a tight rehearsal schedule under the direction of revival director Alessandra Panzavolta. On October 15th, the NPCA invited media to the rehearsal room for a press preview.

NCPA opera Aida is under tight rehearsal for its second run.

Verdi's Aida contains appealing music, and is very challenging to produce due to its large scale of the orchestra and chorus, and so many performers. In January 2015, the NCPA staged a splendid and exquisite production by a competitive international team.

Soprano SUN Xiuwei will make her Aida debut on the NCPA stage.

In the upcoming performance, maestro Daniel Oren will raise his baton, and soprano HE Hui will play Aida once again after the debut run. Then, soprano SUN Xiuwei will play her Aida for the first time on the NCPA stage.

Members of China NCPA Chorus play various roles in Aida.

In the rehearsal room, nearly 100 members of the China NCPA Chorus played the priest, monks, officers, soldiers, Egyptian people and Ethiopic slaves, who push forward the storyline. In their delicate voice, the Chorus acted out the priest’s devotion, prayer's affection, and the triumphant Egyptian soldiers’ excellent morale in the rehearsal for Scene 2 in both Act I and II.

Aged Beijing volunteers will start their first stage appearance in Aida.

In the revival, 10 pantomime roles will be played by Beijing volunteers. Those aged men, who direct the traffic in a yellow waistcoat with a small yellow flag in their hands in everyday life, have stood out from the audition and will make themselves an Egyptian priest on stage. Their steady footsteps and conscientiousness in the rehearsal room were very impressive.
