Martha Graham Dance Company was highly recognized by John Martin as a pioneer of modern dance. On October 30^th-31^st, Martha Graham Dance Company, which made its debut at the NCPA in 2015, returns to the stage with two modern dances during the NCPA Dance Festival 2018.

This time, Martha Graham Dance Company will perform five modern dances Dark Meadow Suite, Ekstasis, Lamentation Variations, Errand into the Maze and Woodland. The first four dances were adopted from Martha Graham’s works created in her early days. The pieces inherit the essence from Graham’s dances, and have contemporary characteristics. Another work Woodland was created by the Company in 2016. Rearranged in the form of solo dance and group dance, Woodland touches upon the relationship between individuals and the group, and aims to seek balance between independence and dependence.

Martha Graham Dance Company Errand into the Maze

This performance is a fusion of classics and new works, which reflects Martha Graham Dance Company's inheritation and innovation in the past 92 years since its establishment. Chinese dancer XIN Ying will act as the leading role in Errand into the Maze and Woodland. She is the third Chinese Chief dancer at Martha Graham Dance Company after XU Fangyi and JIAN Peiru.

On November 3^rd-4^th, after the performance of Martha Graham Dance Company, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani will continue to perform two excellent modern dances. As one of the largest dance companies in Northern Europe, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is committed to creating avant-garde and exclusive dance works. In the first half, dancer will perform the first dance Noetic like robots with the accompaniment of traditional Japanese percussion taiko and kokyu, to express humans’ instinctive demand for life, and dream of breaking conventions. In the second half, the dancers will perform Untitled Black, a multi-level dance, in collaboration with eight dancers from Batsheva Dance Company, to create the audience a dreamlike world of modern dance with the accompaniment of live DJ.
