NCPA Dance Drama Commission The Railway to Tibet marks the 40th anniversary of the Reform and Opening-up and the 12th anniversary of the launch of Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

On June 30th, 2018, the NCPA premiered its Dance Drama Commission The Railway to Tibet, whose production process lasted for two years. This realistic dance drama was created based on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, a major project implemented after the beginning of Reform and Opening-up and tells a touching story about construction workers and local Tibetans developing a profound friendship with each other. As the NCPA’s second dance drama commission, following Marco Polo, The Railway to Tibet is produced by influential Chinese artists including national A-list director WANG Ge, LUO Bin and composer YIN Qing.

The Railway to Tibet won acclaim from professionals and the audience. Veteran LI Ruyin, who participated in the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 1978, said, “The dance drama is very true-to-life and touching. It recovers the vivid scene the same as what we experienced in those days, I’m so excited and moved to tears a couple of times.”

th National Dance Festival on behalf of Beijing for a sold-out audience.

The revived version has new highlights, which is a little different from the first two rounds. In terms of cast, besides domestic top dancers LI Xing, WANG Zhenbing, FENG Jingya, QIN Danni and Lhakpa Tashi, YANG Jialun will star in the drama and play “Suolang”. The “Old Northeast Man”, “Little Sichuan Man” and “LU Tian’s parents” will be played by emerging dancers. In addition, ensemble dances of the strong Tibetan style, including “Hat Dance”, “Washing Dance”, “Spring Planting” and “Supporting the Army”, will be performed in a lively atmosphere by young dancers from Beijing Dance Drama & Opera and dance majors from the Central Academy of Drama to showcase the distinct charms of Chinese ethnic dances.
