On March 14th, Vladimir Jurowski will conduct Richard Strauss, Mendelssohn and Brahms with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Julia Fischer at the NCPA.
London Philharmonic Orchestra
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is a time-honoured British symphony orchestra, founded by legendary master Sir Thomas Beecham in 1932. In history, many maestros, including Haitink, Solti, Tennstedt and Masur, were once in charge of this orchestra. Some of its albums have won grand awards and honours, such as the “Gramophone” Awards and Penguin Classics. Besides the classical music scene, this orchestra scored a number of bankable blockbusters, including The Lord of the Rings, which won the Oscar Awards and Grammy Awards, as well as Lawrence of Arabia, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Thor: The Dark World. Moreover, the classic game music played by the orchestra, such as Angry Birds, Super Mario and World of Warcraft, was popular on the Internet for a time.
Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski
In 2008, the London Philharmonic Orchestra made a visit to the NCPA under the baton of maestro Masur, and then visited the NCPA several more times under the baton of conductors Vassily Sinaisky and Vasily Petrenko. At the upcoming concert, the orchestra will for the first time give a performance at the NCPA under the baton of principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski.As a winner of numerous kudos, he won “Best Conductor” and “Best Opera Conductor of the Year” from the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2018.
Violinist Julia Fischer
Another highlight of the concert is German violinist Julia Fischer’s performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor with the orchestra. Julia Fischer, who was awarded “Best Musician of the Year” by Gramophone, is very popular with music lovers. Besides, the orchestra will depict medieval legend Till’s wit, sense of humour and rebelliousness in Richard Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, and then play Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major.
