“Link Up” is an important youth music education project of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. After field research, feasibility study and negotiations lasting for more than two years, in 2018, the NCPA officially signed a cooperation agreement with Carnegie Hall to jointly develop “Link Up: The Orchestra Sings”. Since May 2018, the NCPA has set up a teaching and research team. In view of the actual situations of Chinese students, the NCPA has launched localized design of teaching materials, carrying out promotions sessions and teacher training, and producing audio and video teaching materials.

“The Music Appreciation Course, developed through “Participation of Institutions of Higher Learning and Social Forces in Aesthetics and Sports Education of Primary Schools”, has many conceptual fits with ‘Link Up’ Project of the United States. Through the collaborative research by both parties, we stand devoted to research and development for localized programs according to the learning characteristics of Chinese students, focusing on Chinese national traditions in the selection of repertoires that will be integrated with compulsory music courses. After finishing a series of practical music courses, students will visit the NCPA and jointly hold a concert in cooperation with the China NCPA Orchestra. They will play the role of 'Little Performers', and enjoy the fun of music course learning”, says WANG Dayu, Director of the Art Popularization Education Department of NCPA.

“Link Up: The Orchestra Sings” has been in the first round of classroom teaching at Xiaowei Hutong Primary School Affiliated to Beijing No.166 High School and Beijing Zizhong Primary School, two music program partner schools of the NCPA, which will be carried out at another 16 partner schools in the fall semester, starting from September 2019.
