The King’s Singers to reenact perfect harmonies

NCPA July/12/2019
On July 19th, the world-renowned The King’s Singers will appear at the NCPA “Roam about the Classics”. A variety of exquisite pieces, from the Renaissance-style to the popular and from the classical to the Beatles’ rock music, will be performed to bring trans-century love to the music lovers in Beijing.

In May 1968, six singers of the King’s College Cambridge held their first concert in the name of “The King’s Singers” in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, proclaiming the birth of this world-class legendary choir. Over the past 50 years, The King’s Singers have continuously expanded their repertoire, bringing unexpected artistic possibilities to audience. Various pieces and humorous adaptions, from the Renaissance-style hymns to improvised rock jazz and from the classical to ballads and popular songs, have won the hearts of music lovers from all over the world. Of the 150 albums released by them, many are Grammy Award winners or platinum records. In 2013, they entered the “Gramophone Hall of Fame”.

At the concert, the King’s Singers will perform the most touching ancient, modern, Chinese and foreign romantic pieces under the theme of “love”. The concert will consist of three parts: “Love In the Movies”, “Remembered Love” and “Love from The Beatles”. Here, audience can travel through time to enjoy the Renaissance composer Jannequin’s Au Joly Jeu and classical master Brahms’ Vineta, as well as exquisite adaptions of classic film theme songs such as Wonderful Love and When She Loved Me. In addition, the Beatles’ most representative songs will be sung in radiant splendour at the concert. Excitingly, the King’s Singers will perform the idol group BTS’ pop song The Truth Untold, which they have adapted with originality, to show their endless creativity.
