Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin staged at NCPA

On October 16th, the “NCPA Pure Classical” 2019 welcomed the authentic sound of German and Austria. Under the baton of Music Director Robin Ticciati, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin performed Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 with the violinist Nicola Benedetti.

10 years ago, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin amazed the audience in Beijing by the charm of German-Austrian classical romanticism classics under the then Music Director Ingo Metzmacher’s leadership. On October 16th, the orchestra made a return visit to NCPA to present their traditional and modern musical vitality after a lapse of 10 years. In the first half, the orchestra cooperated with Benedetti to perform Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Benedetti affectionately presented the story of a giant who maintained his belief in the future after many tough challenges by a Stradivarius violin on the concert.

In the second half, the orchestra presented Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. Tricciati shined with his convincing and full-fledged interpretation. A distinct melody guided the audience into a rich and immense world of Mahler which features rural spring, ethnic dance, distinctive funeral and praise for life. When Tricciati put down his energetic baton, the audience erupted with thunderous acclaim and applause.
