The drama Commission LIN Zexu, co-produced by the NCPA and Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre, will make its debut on December 14^th-22^nd in celebration of the 70^th anniversary of the Founding of the PRC & the 180^th anniversary of Destroying Opium at Humen Beach.

 

The Opium War is a tipping point of China’s history. It started the consciousness-raising and dignity build-up of the Chinese nation. LIN Zexu presents the conflicts between figures who can swing the fate of the country. They’ll act on the huge picture of China—the relationship between personal choices and national fate is an entry point of this drama.

On the afternoon of December 2^nd, the LIN Zexu crew invited the media to visit the rehearsal hall. Together with the creators, the media workers looked back the turbulent period of 1840 through the life experiences and spiritual world of LIN Zexu. Director WANG Xiaodi introduced rehearsal progress to the media. She said: “The LIN Zexu crew was established on October 21^st. We have mainly finished the first round of rehearsals by the group reading of scripts and daily rehearsals. Next, we’ll integrate the music specially composed by ZHAO Jiping and the dance choreographed by HUANG Doudou to present the historical drama in an expressionistic style.” Afterwards, the five leading performers, PU Cunxi, XU Fan, HONG Tao, GUO Da and GUAN Dongtian, presented brilliant scenes with the NCPA drama ensemble and performers of Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre. By superb acting, they revived the personality traits of roles of a courtier, a wife, an emperor, a friend and an enemy, to introduce LIN Zexu, a great man rarely seen in hundreds of years.
