NCPA will bring our audience with 22 performances by six dance companies.

As a soul dancer of the Spanish flamenco, María Pagés is dedicated to blending modern elements and her unique understanding of the world into the traditional flamenco to render it increasingly popular and theatrical, making it one of today’s most appealing dancing arts. From January 1st to 3rd, María Pagés will appear at NCPA with her dance troupe and perform the classic masterpiece An Ode to Time as the first New Year present to the audience.

From January 11th to 12th, dancer YANG Liping will appear at NCPA with the Grand Original Native Song & Dance Medley Shangrila-Dynamic Yunnan. In this classic work choreographed by YANG Liping as Artistic Director and Chief Choreographer, abundant ethnic folk artistic elements of Yunnan are deconstructed and blended together, reproducing the ethnic customs of Yunnan in the form of ethnic song and dance performance. As a work of art peculiar to China, Shangrila-Dynamic Yunnan, which was born in the countryside more than ten years ago, has gone global and formed a milestone-like brand image in China’s dance circles.

From January 26th to 30th, Michael Flatley, honoured as the “best step dancer of Ireland”, will make his debut at NCPA with Lord of the Dance to bring alive this historical legend of Ireland in the Broadway’s style. Michael Flatley is also good at using his ingenuity for choreography and his choreographies Riverdance and Lord of the Dance have brought the Irish step dance into a new era, making it one of the mainstream international dancing arts. The Lord of the Dance is not only a dance drama, but also a “dazzling show”. In addition to the traditional Celtic music, other musical elements, such as electrophonic music, jazz and rock’n’roll, are integrated into the dance. Besides, hi-tech means, including the special-effect lighting, IMAX screen and dancing robot on the stage, will be used in the performance.
