19 performances of seven sessions to celebrate National Day 2020


From September 30th to October 8th, 2020, the NCPA will greet audiences with 19 performances of seven sessions, covering operas, concerts and children’s dramas.

Based on the story of revolutionary hero FANG Zhimin, the NCPA produced the opera commission FANG Zhimin with composer MENG Weidong, librettists FENG Baiming and FENG Bilie and director LIAO Xianghong in 2015. The opera has been presented by the NCPA for four rounds, and even toured in Jiangxi Province, the hometown of FANG Zhimin. From September 30th to October 3rd, LÜ Jia, NCPA Artistic Director of the Music, will join hands with WANG Chong, WANG Kai, LIU Songhu, ZHANG Yang, LI Xintong, ZHANG Xin, KOU Jing and other NCPA Resident Opera Singers, mezzo-soprano LIU Shan and artists from China NCPA Orchestra and Chorus, to give the performance.


From September 30th to October 1st, "I Love You, China" Concert will be held at the Concert Hall. Under the baton of conductor LI Biao, Beijing Symphony Orchestra and pianist TAN Xiaotang will render the surging Ode to the Red Flag, Yellow River Piano Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor Fate and other works. Running Warriors and Wuhan 2020, two commission works of Beijing Symphony Orchestra for the battle against COVID-19, will also resound melodiously.

On October 3rd, “2020 National Day Concert” will become a spotlight of “Bright Autumn Cadenza” Online Series to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China. It will be presented by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor TAN Lihua. Moreover, Beijing Musicians Association Chorus, violinist GAO Can, baritone SUN Li and soprano WANG Qingshuang will also come on the stage to present Ode to the Motherland, Song of the Yangtze River, On the Hopeful Field, My Motherland and other classics for netizens. This online concert will be streamed on the NCPA Classical Music Channel and multiple online platforms.


China National Traditional Orchestra

From October 2nd to 3rd, conductor PENG Jiapeng will cooperate with the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra for National Day Concert. The concert will be co-starred by such artists as ZHOU Dongchao, JIANG Kemei, CHEN Yin and ZHANG Xinyue, who will play suona, banhu, pipa and Peking Opera in turn. On October 6th, conductor LIU Sha and China National Traditional Orchestra will perform classical Chinese orchestral works and concertos for audiences, thereby demonstrating the unique charm of traditional instruments, such as erhu, pipa and bamboo flute.


From October 4th to October 5th, a special concert entitled “Piano Night”, will be jointly held by four well-known Chinese pianists YUAN Fang, SUN Yingdi, SHENG Yuan and ZOU Xiang, who will exemplify multiple performing forms, such as solo, piano duet, piano quartet, two-piano performance and four-piano performance. The repertoire will bring together the most representative works by Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Chopin and other Western maestros, as well as very influential masterpieces by such contemporary Chinese composers as BAO Yuankai and ZHOU Long.

In the Multi-functional Theatre, two multi-media animated children’s dramas will be prepared for the little audiences. A La Luna, which will be staged from October 1st to 4th, describes a fantastic journey of a little girl who wants to ride a flying goose to the moon and find her grandpa. From October 5th to October 8th, the children’s drama Invisibles sheds light on the children’s extraordinary imagination, subtly manifests the imagination through the cute cartoon images, and vividly tells the children’s story on their innermost growth.
