Organised by the NCPA Taihu Art Centre and co-organised by the Tongzhou District Party Committee Propaganda Department, Tongzhou District Culture and Tourism Bureau and Taihu Town People’s Government under the auspices of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Tongzhou District People’s Government and NCPA with support of the Beijing Investment Group Co., Ltd., the NCPA Taihu Performing Arts Week 2021 will officially kick off on September 25th. During a period of 12 days from September 25th to October 6th, four well-known art ensembles from Beijing will give seven stellar artistic performances in many forms of art, including opera, drama, jazz, modern dance and acrobatics, to create rich and diverse artistic experiences for the audience from the sub-centre of Beijing. Meanwhile, the “Taihu International Forum on Stage Art, Beijing Design Week 2021” will be held at the NCPA Taihu Art Centre. Many stage art masters and performing artists will exchange ideas with one another on stage art creations.

LI Jin, leader of NCPA, said, “We will integrate originality into this year’s Arts Week and continue to premiere new works or organise new events to continuously enhance the brand influence of the ‘Performing Arts Week’ to form distinctive IP products. We will work harder to give full play to the leading role of the ‘Taihu Performing Arts Town’ to build a new cultural name card for the sub-centre.”

Since its founding in 2018, the NCPA Taihu Performing Arts Week has been held three times. Every September, the audience at the sub-centre enjoys elegant art and gets touched by it. This year, the 4th Arts Week is to be unveiled, with exciting performances to be given one another to create a strong artistic atmosphere for the audience during the National Day holiday.

From September 25th to 26th, the China National Acrobatic Troupe will give a virtuoso performance themed “youth” to demonstrate their world-renowned consummate acrobatic skills in ball-playing, trick-cycling, pole balancing act, diabolo and walking on stilts to display the unique charms of Chinese acrobatic art. As the first performers to appear at the Arts Week, artists of the China National Acrobatic Troupe will give an upbeat performance to show the younger generation’s love for their motherland and pursuit of art. CHANG Ming, Deputy General Manager of the China National Acrobatic Troupe, said, “Youth is an evening gala for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the China National Acrobatic Troupe. To be performed at the gala are classics and award-winning works kept in the repertoire of the China National Acrobatic Troupe. I believe the gala will give everybody a refreshing feeling at this year’s Arts Week. I also expect that you will have a good time with our performance during the Arts Week. On October 1st, the National Day, a special jazz concert, “Message from Autumn”, will be held at the Taihu Amphitheatre, where the audience will spend a free and romantic evening, a unique “Jazz Night” built out of ten jazz commissions. HUANG Yong, Secretary-General of the Jazz Society of China Musicians Association, said, “I hope that the cross-cultural musical forms and musical styles of various countries and nationalities will be presented at the NCPA Taihu Art Centre to glut the eyes and ears of our audience. Please show appreciation for the Taihu Performing Arts Week. Let’s listen to the world together.” On October 2nd-3rd, TAO Dance Theater, a modern dance company highly popular with the audience, will appear at the NCPA Taihu Art Centre with their modern dance series 5 and 11. Named after numbers, the works boast a unique aesthetic and training system built on the basis of a completely rational study and analysis of repetitive and restrictive body movements in which the body can still release vitality. The TAO Dance Theater’s distinctive body movement technique will broaden the audience’s cognizance of modern dance art so they can enjoy art in a new manner. TAO Ye, the founder and artistic director of the TAO Dance Theater, said, “We are happy to present our works at the Taihu Performing Arts Week. What is most critical to performing arts is the witness of all on-site vitality. Such a moment cannot be copied or kept. Every inch of vitality in a dancer blooms like fireworks and vanishes into thin air in a moment. So, I am looking forward to showing the unique charm of our works at the Taihu Performing Arts Week.” The Taihu Performing Arts Week will be rounded off on October 5th-6th, when the audience can watch a performance of highlights from red works performed by the NCPA Resident Opera Singers and NCPA Drama Ensemble, including Red Classics in Stage Art: Highlights of NCPA Operas and Dramas, operas Sister JIANG, The Long March and Visitors on the Snow Mountain, dramas The Crossroad, Crossroads, etc. The loyalty to the Party will be expressed in art.

As a continuation of the theme, “Culture in Beijing & Performing Arts in Taihu”, the NCPA Taihu Performing Arts Week 2021 is committed to carrying out patriotism and inheriting excellent classics. By dint of wonderful artistic performances, orchestrated programmes and abundant art activities, the Arts Week has received strong favor and support from the audience, becoming an important brand of mass cultural activities at the sub-centre. In the future, the NCPA Taihu Art Centre will gather more and more high-quality performing arts resources to enhance the regional artistic atmosphere, and demonstrate its functional advantages to promote the development of the Taihu Performing Arts Town and cultural construction of the sub-center of Beijing.
