NCPA Drama Commission Live Broadcast: Founding Ceremony of the PRC to be premiered

On September 16^th, a press conference was held for the NCPA drama commission Live Broadcast: Founding Ceremony of PRC, produced by the National Theatre of China (NTC) for the NCPA. The conference was attended by, among others, TIAN Qinxin, President of the NTC and the playwright and director of the drama, ZHAO Tiechun, Vice President of NCPA, and the main performers including: ZHANG Tong, WU Yue, TAO Hong, WU Bi, LIU Wei, SU Qing, HAN Qing, TIAN Zheng, MA Ang, and ZHAO Junyan. The drama will be premiered at the NCPA from October 1^st to 7^th to first stage the behind-the-scenes story about broadcasting the Founding Ceremony of the PRC live on the radio at the great historical moment in 1949 in order to celebrate the 72^nd anniversary of the founding of the PRC in a grand fashion.

TIAN Qinxin, President of the NTC and the playwright and director of the drama, said that it was the first time for the NTC and NCPA to cooperate with each other by commissioned creation. The behind-the-scenes story about broadcasting the Founding Ceremony of the PRC live on the radio would be staged in the form of an artistic work at this important historical node to sing the praises of every ordinary but great person that had made an outstanding contribution to the founding of the PRC.

ZHAO Tiechun, Vice President of NCPA, said, “The drama Live Broadcast: Founding Ceremony of PRC represents NCPA’s first attempt to explore a new way of cooperation in the manner of commissioned creation. Both sides act with united strength. The artists from the NTC will try their best to perform this high-quality and high-level stage masterpiece for the audience to celebrate the 72^nd anniversary of the founding of the PRC.”

The Live Broadcast: Founding Ceremony of the PRC boasts three major innovations. In terms of play-writing, it is a political and artistic work. There is no other drama themed, “Founding Ceremony of the PRC” on the domestic stage, whereas the production of this drama has filled the gap.

Second, different from the transversely placed “black box” on the domestic drama stage, a long and narrow stage, a rare one that is placed breadth-ways, will be used for the drama to lengthen the depth of field visually to create an organic combination of the performance and video.

Third, the real-time photographing technology will be applied on a large scale to project the performance onto multiple screens so that performers can be photographed at any time, thereby ensuring the viewing effect everywhere inside the theatre, and making it possible for the reality and memory to complement each other on stage.
