To inherit the outstanding tradition of the revolutionary art and pass down the Yan’an Art Spirit, the NCPA and Beijing Dance Academy jointly produced a dance drama commission The Sping in Yangjialing, which will be on stage from October 20th to October 23rd. The main creative team invited audiences from the press to enjoy a full rehearsal during the critical period of preparations leading up to the debut.
To mark the 80th anniversary of the Talk at the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art by comrade MAO Zedong, as well as the 8th anniversary of the public release of General Secretary XI Jinping’s Speech at the Symposium on Literary and Art Work. The NCPA and Beijing Dance Academy jointly produced the commissioned work The Spring in Yangjialing with the people-oriented dogma in mind. This dance drama has Chinese characteristics and inherited the spirit of the red revolution, paying tribute to the 20th CPC National Congress. The drama is inspired by Yan’an wood carving paints, which function as major elements and clues. It deployed Han folk dance in contemporary style to recreate the scenes of wood carving paints, and depicted the enormous change that happened in the Yan’an society and people’s daily lives at that time through describing how these artists study, work, produce art work and fight for the revolution.
This dance drama is a concerted effort of choreographer XU Rui, chief director ZHANG Xiaomei, composers CHENG Yuan and XIE Peng. It was created by the department of Chinese Dance and the School of Creative Studies of Beijing Dance Academy, and it was performed by the NCPA Beijing Dance Academy Youth Dance Troupe and the Department of Chinese Classical Dance of Beijing Dance Academy. The performance is consisted of five chapters: Prologue, Entering, Arguing, Bridge of People, and Epilogue. It recreated how educated young people in China chose to go to Yan’an and contribute to serve the revolution.
The emotions of the three main chapters rises into a crescendo, from how artistic practitioners join the people, take the lead in serving the people and ultimately share the same fate with the people. This work aims at encouraging contemporary talents of art to form close knit relationship with the people and root art works deeply in people’s lives. To pass down the spirit of Yan’an and produce more works that reflect the prosperous lives of the people.
