From June 1st to September 9th, NCPA International Theatre Festival 2017 will start. This year, the Festival will present a total of 58 performances in 12 sessions of ten theatres from China, Japan, Germany, Britain, Russia, Spain and Sweden.
Director REN Ming and leading performers take full advantage of the traditional Chinese opera elements and reveal the lifelong ties between drama and dream.
Staatstheater Nürnberg, which presented in the First NCPA International Theatre Festival, will hold the spotlight at NCPA again by means of two small theatre dramas Terror and The 39 Steps from June 21st to June 25th and from June 28th to July 1st, respectively.
Terror is authored by the famous German novelist Ferdinand von Schirach. The audiences could participate in court trial and vote in the drama to influence plot development.
In 1935, The 39 Steps was adapted by Hitchcock into a classic movie. Its drama version is creatively presented in the form of suspense comedy, and won the 2006 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.
Form June 22nd to June 29th, the famous Japanese drama master Tadashi Suzuki and Scot Suzuki Company of Toga will make debut at NCPA to highlight two representative works Trojan Women and Dionysus.
This version of The Visit features strong German expressionist flavour, exaggerates character styles, deforms stage settings and current popular music as the background, and helps the classics sparkle modernity.
From August 11th to August 13th, the Chekhov International Theatre Festival production Twelfth Night will be wholly starred by male actors in Russian language.
From August 16th to August 22nd, the famous director ZHA Mingzhe will present Dorogaya Yelena Sergeevna (a classical repertoire of National Theatre Company of China).
According to director ZHA Mingzhe, “This drama is of great significance in pointing out mutual need among all people in current era. Drama should penetrate into people’s minds and provoke their thoughts”.
From August 23rd to August 27th, the Spanish creative humour physical theatre Papirus will convey funny points with body language, and use simple paper to play a drama with curiosity, tolerance and hope.
From September 6th to September 9th, the British children's drama The Tiger who Came to Tea will be presented at NCPA International Theatre Festival 2017.
From September 7th to September 9th, the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre will present Shadow of Destiny to ring down the curtain of the NCPA International Theatre Festival 2017.
The Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre is a national-class theatrical performance hub in Sweden, in which world-famous director Ingmar Bergman served as artistic director. The Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre cultivates well-known actors such as Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo and other well-known performers.
