China NCPA Chorus is the resident chorus of National Centre for the Performance Arts.
 

China NCPA Chorus was established on December 8, 2009. Wu Lingfen, the famous conductor, serves as its conductor. As the professional artistic performance group that belongs to the highest palace of performance arts, the chorus adheres to the Centre’s guiding principle of “for the people, for the arts, and for the world” and is recognized as a vigorous professional chorus with infinite potential. 

 
During the process of its growth in the past six years, names of many most outstanding artistic masters in today’s world were observed. They include famous directors Francesca Zambello, Giancarlo del Monaco, Hugo de Ana,Chen Xinyi, Cao Qijing, Liao Xianghong, Yi Liming and Li Liuyi; famous conductors Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Myung-whun Chung, Jaap van Zweden, Yan Liangkun, Yang Hongnian, Lü Jia, Zhang Guoyong, Li Xincao, Zheng Jian and Yang Li; famous singers Placido Domingo, Leo Nucci, Inva Mula, Juan Pons, Brandon Jovanovich, Francesco Meli, Dai Yuqiang, Wei Song, Warren Mok, Yuan Chenye, Liao Changyong, Zhang Yalun, Zhang Liping, Dilbèr, Sun Xiuwei, He Hui, Yang Guang and Li Xiaoliang. The masters have given high appraisals to the chorus. The world famous tenor Domingo once said, “I am honored to cooperate with these gifted young artists”. Conductor Lorin Maazel said, “It is a Chorus of passion”. Conductor Daniel Oren, who was excited after rehearsal, said, “This is the chorus that has the best sound I have ever seen. Young as they are, they are better than the choruses in Europe”.
 
As one of the Chinese leading choruses both on stage of operas and concerts, NCPA Chorus represents the highest music attainments among the opera choruses in China. They give more than 100 performances every year, creating opera character images one after another with their sound and enthusiasm, and playing an active role in pushing forward the arts productions of National Centre for the Performance Arts. Since its establishment, it has participated in more than 40 operas by NCPA such as Xi Shi, A Village Teacher, The Chinese Orphan, The Beautiful Blue Danube, The Ballad of Canal, Rickshaw Boy, Visitors on the Snow Mountain, Sunrise, The Dawns Here Are Quiet, Fang Zhimin,and The Long March; and Chinese and foreign classic operas such as The White-Haired Girl, The Red Guards on Honghu Lake, Turandot, Carmen, La Traviata, L’elisir D’amore, Tosca, Die Fledermaus, Der Fliegende Hollander, Un Ballo in Maschera, Lohengrin, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Otello, Nabucco, Le Nozze di Figaro, L’Italiana in Algeri, Il Trovatore, Cavalleria Rusticana & I Pagliacci, Norma, Don Pasquale, Aida, Rigoletto, The Magic Flute, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Eugene Onegin, Andrea Chenier, Der Rosenkavalier, Simon Boccanegra, and Samson et Dalila. Its artistic attainments won favorable comments from the insiders and audiences.
 
Apart from operas, the chorus also planned and performed in many large-scale vocal works and theme concerts including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s Second Symphony, Mahler’s Third Symphony, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, Verdi Requiem, and Concert to Commemorate 110th Birthday of Huang Zi, the opera concerts such as William Tell, Don Juan and other large-scale music and dance epic Road to Revival, Victory and Peace– Evening Gala to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Invasion and the World Anti-Fascism War. By mean of the concerts, the chorus makes more audiences to understand more of its charm and the artistic spirit of its unremitting efforts. 
 
As the resident ensemble of the NCPA, the chorus has always been paying attention to fostering audience, supporting and participating in the artistic education and popularization activities of the NCPA. It actively plans and participates in weekend concerts, classic artistic lectures, and enters schools and communities to help popularize elegant arts and contribute to enhancing people’s aesthetic taste. In 2015, it participated in the tour of NCPA’s opera commission Visitors from the Snow Mountain in seven provinces and municipalities across China and won warm applause and admirations from the audiences, making the power of inspiration of national classics gain lasting artistic aroma. At the same time, the chorus will continue to spread the artistic products and outstanding classic works to overseas arena. They have visited Singapore, South Korea, Japan and other countries and regions for exchanges. On September 23, 2015, the chorus went with the NCPA to Italy for the 17-day tour of Rickshaw Boy, presenting Chinese creative opera to nearly ten thousand spectators in five Italian cities and gaining great success. In December of the same year, the chorus was invited by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra to cooperate with famous Conductor Jaap van Zweden and the Orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, winning great appraisal from its Hong Kong counterparts and the audiences and demonstrating the rich musical expression of the chorus.
 
Beijing, in the new century, is full of the prosperous atmosphere of elegant art. The young artists of the chorus have combined their most vigorous and attractive youth with the art of chorus and the art of opera performance, and strived for the dream and arts.
