The National Centre for the Performing Arts of China (NCPA) announced the NCPA Young Composers Programme hereafter referred to as the Programme, in 2011. As a call for new orchestral works by young Chinese composers, the Programme presents public concert performances of outstanding works selected from the submissions, as well as commissioning winning composers to create new works. In March 2016, the NCPA Young Composer Programme 2016-2017 kicks off and starts its call for entries.
Eligible applicants must be Chinese under the age of forty (40) (born after February, 29, 1976) and meet one of the following conditions:
-Currently studying composition or other related subjects at a higher-education institution or working as a professional composer; or
-Has received degrees from a higher education institution in composition or other related subjects, or
-Able to prove his or her professional standing as a composer by any other means.
All works shall be delivered to the Organizing Committee from March 1, 2016 to December 1, 2016 (postmark deadline). Please refer to Articles of the NCPA Young Composer Programme 2016-2017 for more information about the submssion.
The success of the last three editions of the Programme has attracted world-wide attentions from professional music institutions which has reached consensus on further cooperation with NCPA. Those institutions will present the works composed by winners or commission new works from them in order to popularize the composers.
