NCPA drama Jane Eyre will return for its 15th round of performances
NCPA drama Jane Eyre is an interpretation of Charlotte Bronte’s literary classic of the same name. The drama is directed by WANG Xiaoying, the director of such dramas as Copenhagen, The Crucible and Burnt By The Sun, and adapted by Chinese famous dramatist YU Rongjun, winner of the Chinese Drama CAO Yu Screenplay Award and Chinese Drama Gold Lion Screenwriting Award.
NCPA first brought Jane Eyre to the China's drama stage
The leading actress YUAN Quan once earned the Plum Blossom Award, a high honour in Chinese Drama, by virtue of her performance in Jane Eyre. As Director WANG Xiaoying said, “YUAN Quan’s performance makes the audience forget that she is acting. Within a limited time and space, she gives the audience an illusion: this girl is Jane Eyre!” During rehearsals of Jane Eyre at NCPA, YUAN Quan said, “We are so happy to rehearse Jane Eyre. It feels like being back home. We try to deal with the subtle relations between the two characters in a more earnest way, and bring our own experiences and new feelings about the characters to the performance.” Playing the role of Rochester in this production, WANG Luoyong has taken the male leading roles in American Broadway dramas including Miss Saigon, M. Butterfly and The King And I.
Jane Eyre strips away bourgeois love and the additional impurities of human nature
Furthermore, NCPA Drama Ensemble will also join this drama. As Director WANG Xiaoying pointed out, “It is necessary to have the NCPA Drama Ensemble join in the rehearsals, because they can learn from experienced and mature actors during the rehearsals.”
It’s reported that the performance will last until April 19th (day off on April 17th).
