I am thrilled to return to Beijing on October 17th to begin a two week tour of China with Sinfonia Varsovia celebrating Krzysztof Penderecki’s 85th birthday and performing two works I had the pleasure to premiere.
His hair-raisingly difficult La Follia is one of the fantastic virtuosic violin pieces and the breathtaking Violin Concerto No. 2 Metamorphosen is for me a profound musical work that touches me deeply.
Having dedicated much of 2018 sharing the Maestro’s compositions around the world, I will be so pleased to perform them again November 23rd in Warsaw, the actual date of his birthday.
My partnership with the Maestro and Deutsche Grammophon has resulted in a two CD box set Hommage á Penderecki just released. After 25 years living with Metamorphosen, I am still constantly discovering something new in each performance. And during the five-year journey I have had with his intricate spitfire La Follia, I have found an entirely different musical expression than the depth I have discovered in Metamorphosen.
This is my fourth visit to the extraordinary concert hall at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, my musical “home” in China and I look forward to sharing this dynamic programme with you.
