NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre holds press conference for its performance brands 2020

On January 8th, Performing Arts at Taihu, a press conference for performance brands 2020 of NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre, was held at NCPA. An introduction was given to four major performance brands, including the “Taihu Weekend Concert”, “Taihu Fine Repertoire Exhibition and Performance”, “Taihu Performing Arts Week” and “Taihu Children’s Summer Arts Festival”. The year-round wonderful performances to be given at the Taihu Stage Art Centre were foretold as well. The conference was attended by, among others, LI Zhixiang, Vice President of NCPA, MEI Song, Deputy Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Propaganda Department and Director of the Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Promotion Centre, MA Wen, Second-class Inspector of the Beijing Bureau of Culture and Tourism, TANG Yiyuan, a member of the District Standing Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department, WANG Lisheng, Party Secretary of the Tongzhou District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, WANG Jue, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of the Beijing Performance & Arts Group, famous violinist LÜ Siqing, ZHANG Yi, Music Director of the National Ballet of China, LI Biao, Chief Permanent Conductor of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, HOU Hong, President of the China Pingju Opera Theatre, and HUANG Haiyan, Party Branch Secretary and Executive Deputy Director of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.

Vice President of NCPA LI Zhixiang pointed out, “After its opening, the Taihu Stage Art Centre not only provides NCPA with a rehearsal venue, but makes comprehensive use of high technologies to vigorously popularize arts and hold cultural activities for the people. This year, the Taihu Stage Art Centre will give hundreds of high-quality performances under four major brands, including public events. I hope that a wider audience from the sub-centre of Beijing will walk into the theatre to enrich their daily life by watching performances.”

According to MA Luancai, Director of the General Management Department of the Taihu Stage Art Centre, the “Taihu Weekend Concert” and “Taihu Fine Repertoire Exhibition and Performance” are two new performance brands launched by the Taihu Stage Art Centre in 2020. The “Taihu Weekend Concert” focuses on holding high-grade concerts for art popularization. In order that audience can walk into the theatre and enjoy classical music “without stress”, chamber music, known for its high flexibility, will be played at the “Taihu Weekend Concert” in multiple forms such as symphony performance and master speech in a bid to build a piece of unique artistic landscape in Taihu and even Tongzhou District. 30 wonderful performances will be given one after another by outstanding art troupes, such as the National Ballet of China, China NCPA Orchestra, China National Opera & Dance Drama Theatre and Beijing Dance Drama & Opera, and artists including LÜ Siqing, CHEN Sa, LI Biao and ZHU Yibing. A wider general audience will have the chance to learn about and appreciate the elegant art, and classical music will no longer be an “article of luxury”.

The famous violinist LÜ Siqing said, “Classical music is a way of life that can bring positive and good things to people. This year, the NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre will give a string of ‘affordable’ performances and classic concerts in Taihu to greatly enrich the sub-center residents’ spiritual life, make music part of the blood of the city and let music play at every corner of the city.”

LI Biao, Chief Permanent Conductor of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, said, “This year, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra will give four different concerts in Taihu to enrich the audience’s imagination towards symphonic music. Every concert will be explained orally so that the audience can understand the music. At the same time, amateur instrumentalists among the audience will be invited to the stage to experience the special joy of playing an instrument with an orchestra.”

As an important part of the traditional Chinese culture, the Chinese opera art draws increasing attention and favour from young people. The “Taihu Fine Repertoire Exhibition and Performance” will fully display and inherit the excellent traditional culture of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and interpret the Chinese opera art, a classic quintessence of the Chinese culture, so that more opera fans can watch well-known operas on their doorstep. Outstanding opera troupes, including the China Pingju Opera Theatre, Jingju Theater Company of Beijing and Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre, will perform 24 classical operas, such as Flower is a Go-between, YANG Silang Visits His Mother and Peony Pavilion. Every high-quality wonderful performance will be preferentially priced at 40-120 yuan.

HOU Hong, President of the China Pingju Opera Theatre, pointed out, “It is a blessing for art troupes and the audience that there is such a cultural facility as the Taihu Stage Art Centre in Tongzhou. I hope that art troupes will go closer to the audience with operas as a go-between so that more citizens of Beijing could learn about and develop a keen interest in the Pingju Opera.”

Since the NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre opened in September 2018, the sub-center residents have been able to enjoy high-quality elegant art on their doorstep, and to watch performances at a low price and attend well-planned art activities as well. The annual Performing Arts Week has become a public art brand most-anticipated by the local audience.

The Taihu Performing Arts Week 2020 will be held under the theme of “Beijing Culture- Performing Arts at Taihu” and continue to feature artistic diversity. Moreover, it will be more colourful so that a wider audience will come. From September 9th to 20th, 10 performing arts troupes will be invited to perform music, dramas, dances and traditional operas. My Mother is a Horse, a large-scale children’s drama commission directed by CHEN Xinyi, will be staged in the summer vacation as a special gift for children; the China Pingju Opera Theatre full-length Pingju opera Rainbow of Tibet will be staged to tell a story about two generations of people aiding Tibetans; NCPA resident artists, the Central Conservatory of Music Jazz Band and pianist CHEN Sa will give virtuoso performances, too.

An open day will also be organised under the theme of “Offstage Stories” in the forms of stage set R&D and experience exchange, explanatory exhibition and public-spirited performance to help the local audience learn more about offstage stories and feel the charm of the stage at close range to have their sense of cultural gain and happiness further enhanced.

The Taihu Performing Arts Week 2020 will be held under the theme of “Beijing Culture- Performing Arts at Taihu” and continue to feature artistic diversity.

In addition, the Taihu Stage Art Centre will plan and organise Children’s Summer Arts Festival 2020. The festival will be primarily held in the form of a summer camp for comprehensively implementing quality-oriented education and inheriting excellent cultures. Final works will be staged to fully arouse children’s initiatives. The training forms include classical culture reading, percussion performance, dance performance and theatrical performance. Child training institutions nationwide are welcome to join us.
