NCPA Concert Hall and Taihu Theatre staged live-streamed concerts

On July 25^th, “Dance of Life” of the NCPA “Sound of Summer Blooms” online series was live streamed. YANG Yang conducted pianist ZHANG Haochen and the China NCPA Orchestra in the performance. At the same time, conductor ZHENG Jian and the China NCPA Chorus presented the first performance since the outbreak of COVID-19 at the NCPA Taihu Theatre, located in the sub-centre of Beijing.

According to Beijing’s requirements on epidemic prevention and control, tickets for the concert on July 25^th were sold to limited audiences. The concert was live streamed on the NCPA Classical Music Channel and many other online platforms. By midnight on July 25^th, the concert had over 30 million views. Later on, drama Look West to Chang’an, the Army Day Celebration Concert and other performances, including opera films, will also be presented to limited audiences on the spot.

Before the concert, an anchor of CCTV’s Network News Broadcast, GANG Qiang gave a talk with YANG Yang, ZHANG Haochen and the tuner of NCPA. The concert started with the chimes played by the piano at the beginning of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Then, ZHANG Haochen interpreted Chopin’s Nocturne in C Sharp Minor as an encore. After intermission, YANG Yang led China NCPA Orchestra to perform Rachmaninoff’s last major orchestral work, Symphonic Dances.

On the same evening, led by conductor ZHENG Jian, the China NCPA Chorus performed choral songs for the audience in the NCPA Taihu Open-air Theatre, which was the first performance of NCPA Taihu Weekly Concert since the epidemic broke out.

On August 1^st, ZHENG Jian and the China NCPA Chorus will present a chorus concert themed with “Soldiers and the Motherland”.
