Mongolian National Morin Khuur Orchestra Concert in NCPA's Concert Hall

Presented by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture of China, China's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and the Mongolian Embassy in China, the Mongolian National Morin Khuur Orchestra Concert was held in NCPA's Concert Hall on May 9 as part of NCPA's "World Music Series — Best of Asia" project. Director Xie Jinying of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture, the Mongolian Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Ts. Sukhbaatar, Vice President of NCPA Yang Jingmao and leaders from China's Ministry of Culture, Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Education and envoys from foreign embassies in China attended the event.

The "World Music Series — Best of Asia" project was jointly initiated by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture of China and NCPA within NCPA's World Music Series, focusing on Asian cultural resources. It is a helpful exploration of innovative cooperation between the two and expands the influence of the World Music Series by promoting the cultural exchange between Asian countries and integrating the cultural resources within the region.

Mongolian National Morin Khuur Orchestra

The concert of the Mongolian National Morin Khuur Orchestra opened the project. The 35-member orchestra founded in July 1997 now enjoys a high reputation in the world and has toured 23 countries and regions in the Americas, Asia and Europe, playing 528 concerts. They have promoted the traditional Mongolian culture around the world and contributed greatly to the friendship between Mongolia and the world.

This concert featuring morin khuur music also presented Mongolian long-tune and khoomei, piano and guzheng solo performances, offering a dozen of Mongolian flavoured pieces. The concert concluded in a climax with a fusion piece Jasmine Flower.
