Professor Zheng Xiaoying is artistic director and principal conductor of Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, artistic director of Zheng Xiaoying Opera Art Center of Xiamen Engineering College of Huaqiao University. Professor Zheng is the first female opera and symphony conductor of China. She was Principal Conductor of China National Opera House, Dean of the Conducting Department of China Central Conservatory of Music and Music Director of 'Ai Yue Nu', the Women's Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. She graduated from the Central Conservatory of music, and continued for advanced studies in opera and symphony orchestra conducting at the Moscow National Conservatory. She won the first prize for excellent conducting from China's Ministry of Culture, also received the French Literature and Arts Medal of Honor and the Russia-China Friendship Medal.
Since 1980, Zheng Xiaoying has held concerts and conducted operas to wide acclaim in Australia, America, Europe, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. She was the first Chinese conductor to take the podium in a foreign opera theater, and Western news media have called her the World's Best Woman Conductor.
In 2006, Zheng Xiaoying was appointed as the Artistic Director of the 4th World Choir Games, and successfully led the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra to visit Jinmen, Taipei, Zhongli and Gaoxiong. In 2007, she led the orchestra to give 8 tour concerts in France, Germany, Austria and Italy. The Chinese modern symphonic classic, Echo of Hakka Earth Buildings, designed by Zheng Xiaoying and composed by Liu Yuan, was performed in Berlin Philharmonic Hall and gained unprecedented success and acclaim. In 2008, she was invited to conduct the large orchestra on the opening ceremony of the 5th World Choir Games in Austria.
In recent years, Professor Zheng Xiaoying has been awarded Outstanding Contribution Prize from Xiamen municipal government, Special Contribution Prize from Xiamen Culture Bureau, one of the top ten persons who 'Moves Xiamen in 2003', Special Prize in Conducting of China Gold Record, nominee for 1,000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005, Gold Prize of Women World Chinese Elite. In 2007, she was awarded Moral Model Prize from Xiamen municipal government, to cite her professional dedication.

Dedicated to the staging of epic operas, ballets and dance dramas, the golden Opera House is considered the centerpiece of the NCPA. Its main tone is golden color, which looks glamorous and splendid. In the auditorium are the stalls and three higher levels of balconies, which can seat an audience of 2,207, including the venue of SRO. It is equipped with a modern stage that can be moved up/down/backward/forward or rotated, a ballet stage that can slant, and a rising orchestra pit for the triple winds orchestra. All the cutting-edge staging mechanism provides artists with enormous possibilities of creative performance.
