2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 85th anniversary of the victory of the Long March by the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. On the night of September 29th, NCPA Chinese epic opera commission The Long March kicked off its tenth round of performance to celebrate China’s 72nd birthday.
At the moment when the Red Army was withdrawing from Ruijin and setting foot on the journey, Political Commissar PENG, played by YAN Weiwen (Left), and Doctor HONG, played by WANG Zhe (Right), passionately eulogized the conjugal love, the family affection, and the revolutionaries’ lofty sentiments.
Pingyazi, played by WANG Hongwei, got poisoned when tasting edible wild herbs, unluckily getting swamped. He sang I Am Reluctant to Part with You, expressing his attachment to his comrades-in-arms.
China NCPA Chorus once again shaped the images of soldiers and civilians on the Long March. The artists from the Song and Dance Troupe of Datong Song and Dance Theatre depicted the Red Army's long-range raid during a day and a night and their heroic efforts made to capture the Luding Bridge.
The opera, produced by composer YIN Qing, librettist ZOU Jingzhi, and directors TIAN Qinxin and YANG Xiaoyang, presents the great Long March spirit to the audience in a contemporary aesthetic form.
On September 30th, NCPA Resident Opera Singers WANG Chong, WANG Hexiang, LI Xintong and ZHANG Wenqin will join hands with LIANG Yufeng, a member of China NCPA Chorus, to retrace the Long March with the audience. This time, the performance will last until October 7th.
The music company under NCPA has cooperated with the Shanghai Music Publishing House in releasing an all-media publication themed The Long March, to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
