As the heroine, LEI Jia delivered a performance full of faith with her penetrating voice. She visualises the glorious image of PAN Dongzi’s Mother, and vividly depicts how she tranforms from an ordinary person devoted to the CPC into a revolutionary soldier fearless of death.

The Red Army, townspeople, guerrillas and the landlord’s restitution corps members are all portrayed by members from the China NCPA Chorus.

In addition to the exquisite performance, the realistic and freehand stage scenery is eye-catching. The entire stage looks like a book paper, which seems to be retell history as readable to the audience, with the characters getting exposed on the paper. As the story unfolds, the book paper begins to change, with its staggered platforms forming a steep crag, a poetic bamboo grove and azaleas spreading all over the mountain.

The first round of performances will continue until 26th. Tomorrow evening, another group of artists, led by WANG Zhe and WANG Kai, will present this wonderful opera commission to the audience.
