Ballet stars from five countries gather at the NCPA International Ballet Gala

On the evening of January 3rd, the NCPA ushered in its first dance performance of 2025 with a star-studded International Ballet Gala that featured an exciting and diverse selection of ballet pieces.

The event kicked off the year with a spectacular grand opening performance, bringing together ten renowned ballet dancers from Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and China.

As the curtain rose, the two most anticipated stars of the evening—Julian MacKay, Principal of Bayerisches Staatsballett, and Maria Khoreva, First Soloist at Mariinsky Ballet took the stage with a pas de deux from Nutcracker.

Semyon Velichko, Principal of Dutch National Ballet, and Soloist Elisabeth Tonev present a classic pas de deux from Raimonda.

Later in the second half, the couple performed a contrasting modern piece from Embers, a dance filled with cold, fragmented emotions.

Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin, Principals of Staatsballett Berlin, captivated the audience with a stunning excerpt from Nacho Duato's renowned work Multiplicity·Forms of Silence and Emptiness.

Elisa and Mikhail also performed Jeunehomme, a contemporary piece inspired by Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major.

The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s principals, Laurynas Vejalis and Kate Kadow, delivered an impressive pas de deux from the Ballet Flame of Paris.

Principals Laurynas and Kate, also showcased their flawless coordination in the pas de deux from the Ballet Corsair.

Chinese dancers ZHANG Jinhao, Principal of Bayerisches Staatsballett, and AO Dingwen, Lead Principal of Liaoning Ballet, performed an iconic scene from Giselle.
