Facing heavy taxes imposed by the king, the people look woebegone, and Effendi's Double is taking the opportunity to cheat the poor. With his wisdom, Effendi exposes His Double’s crimes and makes the king aware of the necessity to treat the people well.

The librettist, DONG Ni, sets the plot from children’s perspective. The “bad guys” - His Double and Bad Donkey - goof up in a funny way. Effendi outsmarts His Double, convincing the kids that one should uphold justice and keep kind.

The stage director, MAO Ernan, uses tender feelings and varied body movements to achieve a fuller dramatic effect so that the kids believe “Effendi does exist”.
