On August 15th, the NCPA resumed a performance of traditional opera, staging Peking opera highlights. The performance featured guzheng artist SHANG Jingya, Peking opera masters FANG Xu, HU Wenge, CHI Xiaoqiu, LI Hongtu, SHI Yihong, TAN Xiaozeng, LI Shengsu and YU Kuizhi, and was streamed live on the NCPA Classical Music Channel, Kuaishou and many other online platforms. As of 10 am on 16th, the performance had been over 30 million views.

Anchorwoman DONG Yi hosted the performance at the NCPA East Exhibition Hall. Before the performance, NCPA Chinese opera programme planner NAN Hao visited the dressing rooms of SHI Yihong, Master of the MEI school, and Jing (painted-face male role) actor FANG Xu to elaborate on the makeup and costumes. They gave an in-depth introduction of the programme, which enlightened the new audience with insights and deepened the opera fans’ understanding of Peking opera.

SHANG Jingya, a guzheng player of Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing, raised the curtains by Happiness for Eternal Time, a piece of guzheng music adapted from a traditional Peking opera tune of the same name. Young Jing actor FANG Xu of the Company rendered an excerpt from Capturing Five Feudatory King. As four masters of the Company, the heir to the MEI School HU Wenge, the heir to the CHENG School CHI Xiaoqiu, the heir to the YE School LI Hongtu and the heir to the TAN School TAN Xiaozeng performed excerpts from MU Guiying Takes Command, The Unicorn Purse, LÜ Bu & Diaochan,and Dingjun Mountain. Master SHI Yihong from Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company presented excerpts from The Drunken Concubine. Masters YU Kuizhi and LI Shengsu of National Peking Opera Company cooperated to render excerpts from Yangsilang Visits His Mother and symphonic Peking Opera work Butterfly Love.
