The NCPA launched the opera The Daughter of the Party in July 2021 and invited A-list Chinese artists to the stage in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. The opera will be re-staged from October 28th to 31st.

The Daughter of the Party, adapted from LIN Bin’s literary scenario of the same title was created in the 1990s. The libretto was discussed by WANG Jian, HE Dongjiu and WANG Shouyuan, and YAN Su did the actual writing. The music was composed by WANG Zujie, ZHANG Zhuoya, YIN Qing, WANG Xiren, JI Cheng and FANG Tianxing. Since its premiere, the national classic opera, a collection of excellent Chinese artistic elements, has been performed for more than 600 times, becoming a well-deserved model in the history of Chinese opera.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and 30th anniversary of the premiere of the opera The Daughter of the Party. With strong support from the Department of Arts Management, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Publicity Bureau of Political Work Department, Central Military Commission, and PLA Culture and Art Centre, the NCPA has invited WANG Jun, one of the first-round directors, to yet again put this red classic in the limelight by working with a Chinese production team according to the idea of “cultural inheritance and innovation”. During its premiere in July, the opera was staged on an unprecedentedly grand occasion. This time, the NCPA will continue to polish the performance.

In The Daughter of the Party, heroine “TIAN Yumei” is an ordinary female member of the Communist Party from the grassroots organisation. She is a person who loves the Party, the country, her homeland and the people. she has a well-rounded character, which is lifelike, unaffected and touching. The hard-to-sing arias in the opera, including Revival After Death in Blood and Fire, and Spring Engulfs Homeland, are challenging to sopranos. This time, soprano LEI Jia will continue to portray this beautiful, determined, gentle and valiant female communist. Baritone LIAO Changyong will take the stage again to portray the Granduncle-in-law, who is upright, adamant, lovely and wise. Other outstanding singers that performed well in the premiere of the opera, including WU Jing, WANG Hexiang, XUE Haoyin, WANG Zenan, WANG Jing, JIANG Ning, KOU Jing, HUANG Xunguo and LIANG Yufeng, will go on stage again with YU Zixi and TIAN Mimi, two little children performers, to stage the opera from October 28th to 31st.
