The NCPA has launched a new series of concerts—"Maestros Memorial", introducing a number of essential classical music programmes to music lovers for a glimpse of maestros' charm.
The year 2023 marks the anniversaries of numerous maestros. For instance, the 210th
birth anniversary of Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi, the 190th
anniversary of Brahms' birth and the 130th
anniversary of Tchaikovsky's death, the 150th
anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birth and the 80th
anniversary of his death. This year also marks the anniversaries of numerous classical music works' premieres. The NCPA "Maestros Memorial" series will be presented throughout 2023, covering the masterpieces of Mendelssohn, Brahms, Wagner, Verdi, Grieg, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Couperin, Rameau, Britton and many others.
From February 12th to March 4th, the first set of nine concerts will be presented by the China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the China NCPA Orchestra, with virtuosos LIU Xiao, Siqing Lu and HUANG Bin, and conductors including YUAN Ding, LIN Daye, TAN Lihua, ZHANG Yi and LÜ Jia. The programmes include Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "From the New World", Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor "Pathetique", etc.
