NCPA Opera Aida to return under the baton of Zubin Mehta

From November 1^st to 5^th, the NCPA’s first grand opera, Aida, will return after a lapse of over five years. Maestro Zubin Mehta, who conducted its premiere, will return to the stage and raise his baton over the China NCPA Chorus and Orchestra to interpret this exquisite classic of Verdi, in cooperation with world-class singers and outstanding dancers from the National Ballet of China to celebrate the 210^th anniversary of Verdi’s birth.

In 2015, the NCPA premiered this highly sensuous opera, with its lifelike stage scenery and excellent stage performance. Maestro Zubin Mehta said that the audience will feel disappointed if they watch various other versions around the world after enjoying the NCPA’s version live.

Five years later, the NCPA’s Aida will yet again come on. This year marks the 210^th anniversary of Verdi's birth, and Maestro Mehta is 87 years old who pays attention to every detail of the rehearsal. Important dance of the second act has been rearranged this time., with two ballet dancers from Italy to dazzle with their amazing postures.

The upcoming performance features A-list opera singers from the world, including Susanna Branchini and SUN Xiuwei, who will play the heroine Aida. Radamès will be portrayed by tenors Jorge de Leòn and WANG Chong. Russian singer Anastasia Boldyreva and NIU Shasha will act the challenging role of the Egyptian princess Amneris. Other singers, including Dalibor Jaenisch, ZHANG Yang, Adriano Gramini, GUAN Zhijing, ZHANG Wenqin, and KOU Jing, will join the cast for a joint interpretation of this exquisite grand opera.
