Joyce DiDonato forged ties with China in the spring of 2015, when she attended the NCPA “May Festival” with the Il pomo d’oro Orchestra. During her first visit, Joyce DiDonato sang songs from her award-winning album
Queen of Baroque, presenting Baroque vocal works composed in the 17
th and 18
th centuries. In early 2019, Joyce DiDonato made a second visit to the NCPA with her old partner, the Il pomo d’oro Orchestra. At the concert themed
War and Peace, featuring 13 vocal and instrumental works by six composers, she once again sang beautiful arias, which were mixed into an audiovisual feast.

th, the “Land of Nature” Joyce DiDonato and Il pomo d’oro Orchestra Concert will be held at the NCPA Concert Hall. Joyce DiDonato, a world-renowned mezzo-soprano who has won the Grammy Awards three times, during her third visit to the NCPA. She’s exploring the relationship between humans and nature in the opera, art song and contemporary music.
The repertoire features vocal works composed in four centuries. On the exciting evening, the audience will first enjoy works by Italian Baroque composers Marini and Handel, then those by classical composer Gluck and late-Romantic composer Mahler, and finally those by modern composers Ives and Copland. The semi-theatrical production has clever music arrangement and lyrics, which have much to do with nature and life, are full of positive, optimistic, spontaneous, relaxing and unconventional sentiments. A unique performance showcasing exceptional stage scenery and colourful makeup to take you back to over one hundred years ago in search of a natural paradise filled with green leaves and flowers.
The dynamic concert will be presented with the involvement of Joyce DiDonato’s long-term partner, the Il pomo d’oro Orchestra, as well as Bulgarian violinist Zefira Valova, French stage director Marie Lambert-LeBihan and designer Vita Tzykun.
