During this summer, you’re invited to the NCPA to take a boat on the sea of songs and enjoy the melodious sound of singing and feel the colourful, wonderful human voices. From August 1^st to August 25^th, the NCPA August Chorus Festival 2024 will be held under the theme, “Colourful Voices”.


In nearly one month, 15 top choirs from China, the Czech Republic, the UK and Georgia will deliver 19 high-level choral concerts at the NCPA and Beijing Performing Arts Centre. Their colourful voices will be presented under rich themes in different languages in diverse forms.

The NCPA August Chorus Festival 2024 will kick off on August 1^st, the Army Day. Under the famous conductor ZHENG Jian’s baton, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and Beijing Male Choir for Principal Artists will join hands with Soprano WANG Qingshuang to perform soul-stirring military songs to unveil the NCPA August Chorus Festival 2024. I Stand Guard For My Great Country and other well-known military works, which boast of classic melodies that have undergone the baptism of time, not only brimming with high respect for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and armed police, but also will strengthen the never-fading patriotic feelings held by the public.

As “host”, the China NCPA Chorus will give five choral concerts themed, “Appointment in Midsummer” and “Pouring Out Feelings in Music” under the leadership of conductors WU Lingfen and JIAO Miao. They will perform folk songs from all over the world to show the audience the charm of different national cultures. Their heart will be poured out in these often-heard Chinese and foreign classic songs.

The “national choral ensembles” of China, including the Opera Troupe of China National Opera & Dance Drama Theatre, China National Traditional Orchestra Folk Choir and China National Symphony Orchestra Choir, will present their respective “masterpieces”. Under the famous conductor ZHENG Jian’s baton, the Opera Troupe of China National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre will hold a “brilliant” dialogue between tradition and modernity. The China National Traditional Orchestra Folk Choir will stage Map of Chinese Folk Songs - Travel on Clouds, a uniquely creative masterwork that has taken years to produce. Their music will take the audience on a cloud journey to the beautiful rivers and mountains of China. The China National Symphony Orchestra Choir will round off the NCPA August Chorus Festival 2024 resplendently with splendid Chinese-foreign “golden light” under WANG Linlin’s baton.

Influential and Internet-famous “star” ensembles from across China, such as the Beijing Philharmonic Choir, Chengdu Philharmonic Choir, Yunnan Arts University Youth Choir, Rainbow Chamber Singers, Ningbo Chorus, Chengdu Philharmonic Children’s Choir and Guangzhou Little Petrel Children’s Choir, will show their unique acting styles at the August Chorus Festival. Their distinctive repertoires will entertain the audience on the scene. Prestigious chorus masters, including YANG Li, YAN Baolin, ZHU Xi and JIN Chengzhi, will satisfy every listener with a certain piece, which may be an opera aria, a Chinese folk song, a film or TV song or a jazz ballad.

This year’s August Chorus Festival will, for the first time, be held at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre as an additional venue. Three high-level choirs from overseas, including the Czech Boni Pueri Boys Choi, U.K. Trinity Boys Choir and Georgia Folk Tour, will appear at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre and present their highly distinctive vocal sounds to the public.
