During this National Day Holiday, the Vienna Boys Choir, which comes from Austria, will sing at the NCPA Concert Hall. They will offer a colourful, romantic audiovisual feast by presenting creative classical works, including famous opera arias, art songs, religious songs, film songs and musical songs.
Musical and film songs are highlights of their performance, some including
There’s No Business Like Show Business from the musical
Annie Get Your Gun,
Marc Shaiman Hail, Holy Queen from the film
Sister Act, and
The Prayer from
Quest for Camelot. The three songs selected by the Vienna Boys Choir are well-known for their melodies, which sound like nature in children’s voice and will stir up a different feeling.
Folk tunes are also highlights, including the Bulgarian folk song Birds Are Singing, Ukrainian New Year’s Eve Song, Serbian gypsy dance Niska Hot Spring, Chinese folk song Little Running River, a ballad of Yunnan Province, and famous Song of the Yangtse River, as well as Túrot Eszig a Cigány, composed by Zoltán Kodály, a Hungarian musician. Typical of folk music, these pieces are of a strong national style. A combination of children’s voice and folk music will add a refreshing colour to the unique national customs, which will thus take on a new look.
When it comes to “China-related” works, the Vienna Boys Choir shows originality - in addition to the two mentioned above, there is also a world-famous aria,
On Top of The East Mountain, which comes from the opera
Turandot. Perhaps you haven’t ever heard of its name, but you must be familiar with its melody, which is based on a famous Chinese folk tune, “Flower Tune”. This work is an excerpt from
Turandot, an opera by Italian composer Puccini. The story unfolds around Turandot, a Chinese princess of the Yuan Dynasty.
Additionally, there are also Western art songs in their repertoire, including Schubert’s Trout, which is well-known for choral singing in children’s voice, Brahms’ Lullaby and Bruckner’s Virga Jesse Foruit, as well as dance songs such as, Les Patineurs, Sing’s Joy, The Blue Danube, etc.
On this National Day Holiday, pure sounds of singing will echo inside the NCPA Concert Hall. With their time-honoured musical texture, the Vienna Boys Choir will travel through borders and space to entertain us on a soul-purifying journey of music.
