From November 27th to December 1st, the NCPA’s new production of Johann Strauss Jr.’s operetta, Die Fledermaus, will meet the audience on the stage of the NCPA Opera House. The year of 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the premiere of the operetta. On this occasion, the NCPA production, produced by an international creative team, will be interpreted anew by numerous Chinese and foreign singers to regale the audience audio-visually.
On the afternoon of November 19th, media reporters attend the open rehearsal of Die Fledermaus. The Chinese lead cast, including ZHOU Zhengzhong, SONG Yuanming, QIN Kanru, XU Xiaoyi, CAI Chengyu, ZHANG Xiaomeng, DENG Chao and LIANG Yufeng, rehearsed under the guidance of the director and set designer Vincent Boussard, devoting themselves to every detail meticulously.
At the press conference held earlier, the director and set designer Vincent Boussard, expressed his hope that the complex human nature and fine sentiments hidden in the joyous atmosphere would be revealed through concise stage design and accurate use of light projection.
In the rehearsal hall, the media reporters saw a movable “door” and two wooden horses on the stage, which are important carriers for presenting dramatic activities and character mentality. It is apparently worth anticipating how these installations are eventually presented on the stage of the Opera House.
While the operetta was in rehearsal, several other rehearsal halls were also occupied, respectively, by the China NCPA Orchestra under Maestro Marc Minkowski’s baton, the China Railway Art Ensemble under famous choreographer Helga Letonia’s guidance, and the China NCPA Chorus under the leadership of JIAO Miao, Chorus Master of the China NCPA Chorus. In the next few days, the cast and crew will work together at the Opera House to optimise stage presentation. The artists strive to act in perfect unison at their best so that they will be able to present the colourful Viennese scenery, something depicted by Johann Strauss Jr., to the audience in one week.
