On May 8^th, 2025, the 2025 Annual Meeting and Appointment Ceremony of the NCPA Art Expert Committee were held at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre. All the leaders of the NCPA, consultants to the NCPA Art Expert Committee, member representatives and media representatives got together to inject strong impetus into the sustainable development of the NCPA.


Chaired by ZHAO Haiying, Deputy Secretary of CPC Leading Group and Vice President of the NCPA in charge of the day-to-day work, the meeting began with beautiful snippets of We Are Running Water in the Grand Canal and You Raise Me Up sung by the China NCPA Chorus.


ZHANG Yao, a member of the CPC Leading Group and Vice President of the NCPA and Deputy Director of the NCPA Art Expert Committee, gave a detailed account of the Committee Charter and announced a new list of consultants and members for the NCPA Art Expert Committee. At the meeting, the organisational structure of the Committee was redefined and a new charter was formulated to further standardise the organisational functions, so as to provide a firm guarantee for scientific decision-making on artistic production. Many authorities on art and outstanding representatives of various genres of art will also dedicate their strong professionalism and rich experience to the development of art at the NCPA.

LI Jin, a member of the CPC Leading Group of the NCPA, Executive Deputy Director of the NCPA Art Expert Committee and General Secretary of the NCPA Art Expert Committee, gave an in-depth summary of the NCPA’s artistic results achieved in 2024 and shared the NCPA’s yearly plan for 2025. In 2024, the NCPA made remarkable achievements in artistic creation. Many of its productions, including the opera Das Rheingold, musical In War & Peace, Peking opera The Legend of the White Snake and drama DENG Shichang, were highly praised by the insiders and the audience for their artistic quality and profound connotation. In 2025, the NCPA will deepen its commitment to the arts in trying to present a larger number of high-quality and greatly influential artistic masterpieces. Its new opera Die Walküre and drama Twelfth Night have achieved success in both box office revenue and reputation this year. Other NCPA productions that will premiere in the second half of this year, such as the opera commissions Red Sorghum, The Peony Pavilion and Monkey Subdues the White Bone Demon, drama commissions Middle Capital of Jin, The Spring River Flows East and Pride and Prejudice, etc., are highly anticipated, too.

JIN Dong, a representative of the members of the NCPA Art Expert Committee, and XU Xiaozhong, a representative of the consultants to the NCPA Art Expert Committee and Theatrical Director of the NCPA, delivered speeches at the meeting. WANG Ning, Secretary of CPC Leading Group and President of the NCPA and Chairman of the NCPA Art Expert Committee, presented letters of appointment to the consultants and members. He extended warm congratulations to them, saying, “The ‘letter of appointment’ carries the NCPA’s highest respect for you. The ‘letter of appointment’ is filled with the NCPA’s sincerest thanks to you. The ‘letter of appointment’ represents the NCPA’s earnest promise to you. The ‘letter of appointment’ is full of the NCPA’s best wishes to you.”

President WANG Ning then added that the Appointment Ceremony is worth congratulating and commemorating because it marks a new milestone in the NCPA’s artistic creation and production. For the NCPA, a national cultural platform, founding the NCPA Art Expert Committee is an important measure to thoroughly study and implement XI Jinping Thought on Culture. The Committee is not only an organisation for artistic decision-making and consulting, but also a think tank devoted to setting the trend for innovation in the industry. The Committee consists of 26 consultants and 64 members, who are directors, playwrights, librettists, conductors, composers, writers or theorists from different domains of art such as opera, music, dance, theatre, traditional opera, musical and crossover art. This 90-expert committee is veritably an “all-star” team in the performing arts industry. With their efforts, the NCPA will be able to create and produce artistic works with a broader vision and richer experience on a higher level. In the future, the NCPA will invite more experts to join the Committee, if possible, to continuously expand the think tank to lay a solider foundation for future development. The Committee will definitely improve its “organisational structure”, give full play to its “functions” and seek a firm guarantee from the “experts”, to make itself a “gilded signboard” in the performing arts industry.

The 2025 Annual Meeting and Appointment Ceremony of the NCPA Art Expert Committee were successfully held with all forces from the art world brought together. This reflects the NCPA’s leadership and extensive influence in the art circles. Looking ahead, the NCPA will closely rely on the Art Expert Committee and further develop its functional advantages to upgrade artistic production in every detail. More and more outstanding artists will be invited to join the Committee to promote the booming development of stage art in China so that the NCPA will make more contributions to promoting cultural prosperity.
