On August 14th and 15th local time, the NCPA opera film Le Nozze di Figaro was screened twice at the Zacatecas Film Library. This event formed a key part of the 10th NCPA International Opera Film in its overseas outreach, co-hosted by the NCPA, China Film Group Corporation and Film Channel Programme Centre of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
This event is also one of the cultural highlights of the First “International Sister Cities Festival”, hosted by the Zacatecas Municipal Government. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Miguel Ángel Varela Pinedo, Mayor of Zacatecas City, Manuel Castillo Romero, Director of Innovation and Sustainable Economic Development of Zacatecas City, and BAI Lin, representative of the director of China Cultural Center in Mexico, among others.
Mayor Varela expressed his gratitude to the NCPA for bringing this outstanding production to Zacatecas. He stated that the event not only offered local viewers an excellent artistic experience, but deepened cultural ties between the two countries. The two screenings attracted a total audience of over 120, including local residents, artists, culture professionals, and film enthusiasts.
With the support of the China Cultural Center in Mexico, the NCPA opera film Le Nozze di Figaro was put on show at the “International Sister Cities Festival”, marking the first time an NCPA opera film has ever been screened in Mexico.
The film reinterprets Mozart’s classic masterpiece through innovative audiovisual techniques, with stage artistry and video technology organically blended together. It provides a uniquely charming audiovisual expression of both world-class theatrical heritage and Chinese originality. The two screenings received enthusiastic responses and unanimous praise from the audience.
Audience member Beatriz Zaldívar said it was a wonderful viewing experience. She thanked the NCPA for bringing this artistic gem to Zacatecas during the Sister Cities Festival, and expressed the hope of enjoying more high-level performances in the future.
Just launched this year, the “International Sister Cities Festival” features over 320 events spanning culture and arts, film, gastronomy, and academic exchange, including 131 stage performances, 83 exhibitions, and 47 film screenings, as well as a series of seminars and culinary events. The festival serves as a platform for international cultural exchange, city-to-city cooperation, and cultural tourism promotion, especially one for deepening collaborations among the international sister cities.
Since the start of the 10th NCPA International Opera Film Exhibition, the NCPA stage art films have been successively screened in countries such as Colombia and Mexico, showcasing China’s achievements in stage art creation to international audiences. This also represents a significant step in the NCPA’s active expansion of its overseas screening footprint and deepening of its practical cooperation with cultural institutions in Latin America, injecting fresh momentum into ongoing cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.
The 10th NCPA International Opera Film Exhibition is currently underway. This year’s films are highly popular with the audience. So two additional films, recommended by the World Association for Performing Arts (WAPA), will be presented as special encores - the Metropolitan Opera film Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Royal Opera House Muscat La Traviata will begin at the NCPA Concert Hall at 19:00 on September 22nd and 19:00 on September 23rd, respectively. Please stay tuned.
In the future, more excellent NCPA stage art films will be brought to more foreign countries and regions with the aid of the WAPA.
