The NCPA Ballet, jointly founded by the NCPA and Beijing Dance Academy, is Beijing’s first municipal ballet ensemble. It aims to become a world-class ballet ensemble with international influence. Centred on the creation and performance of contemporary and innovative ballet, the Ballet will deepen its grounding in the classical repertoire while continuing to expand contemporary body expression, creative thinking and stage presentation. Partnering with each other, the NCPA and Beijing Dance Academy are devoted to blazing a development path that links artistic creation, talent development and stage presentation, serving audiences with excellent works and advancing Chinese ballet through innovative practice.

As a national cultural centre, the NCPA has worked to build a platform for original thematic art. It has founded the NCPA Chorus, the NCPA Orchestra, the NCPA Resident Singers and the NCPA Drama Ensemble. These professional ensembles develop in tandem with the NCPA’s production system, providing a steady supply of talent for “NCPA Production”, a prestigious brand.

The NCPA Ballet is the NCPA’s fifth professional ensemble. Its founding has brought the NCPA’s resident arts groups into a new structure, which now comprises “three of one kind and two of another”. It has also extended the artistic production system into a broader range of genres, bound the theatre platform more closely to professional creative forces, and further strengthened the NCPA’s capacity to plan, produce and continuously present excellent works on its own.

The NCPA Ballet will recruit dancers worldwide. It plans to complete its formation and present its debut performance in 2026. After that, it will continue to commission and perform new and classical works and produce innovative ballets.
